D.I.Y (Do It Yourself) Editing

Are the DVD's DTS creates editable?
Since our DVD's are not encrypted, editing a transfer from a DVD-Video disk is as simple as copying the video_ts folder onto the computer's hard drive, renaming all the .vob extensions to .mpg, and importing the .mpg files into any video editing software capable of editing mpeg files.

Editing MPEG-2 files is acceptable for most home-movie desktop applications. When full uncompressed video and frame discretion are required, Digital Transfer Systems offers three solutions for individuals looking to edit their transfers.

Solution #1 (MiniDV)
MiniDV is a consumer digital video format which offers up to 520 lines of resolution. We can fit up to 800ft of 8mm/Super8 film, 1800ft of 16mm film, or an hour of analog video onto a single cassette.

Requirements:
1. MiniDV Camcorder or standalone DV deck
2. Computer with firewire inputs
3. Video editing software

Solution #2 (Digital 8)
Digital 8 is a consumer digital video format which offers up to 500 lines of resolution.
We can fit up to 800ft of 8mm/Super8 film and 2000ft of 16mm film onto a single cassette.

Requirements:
1. Digital 8 Camcorder
2. Computer with firewire inputs
3. Video editing software

Solution #3 (DVD-Rom Data Disk)
DVD-Rom Data Disk is a viable option for individuals who lack the necessary hardware above or who wish to skip the time-consuming task of capturing video onto their computers. The DVD-Rom Data Disk contains uncompressed AVI files importable into virtually any PC video editing software. MAC video editing software uses the native Quicktime format. We can convert the AVI files to Quicktime ($1.00/min of video) or you can use Quicktime Pro and do it yourself.

This DVD-Rom Data Disk is only compatible with DVD-Rom Drives. It will not play in a stand-alone DVD Player. In order to edit the files, they first need to be copied from the DVD-Rom Drive onto the computer hard drive.

Requirements:
1. Computer with DVD-Rom Drive
2. Video editing software

Solution #4 (External Hard Drive)
External Hard Drive is a perfect option for individuals with a large amount of uncompressed video. External hard-drives contain uncompressed AVI files and are compatible with virtually any PC video editing software. MAC video editing software uses the native Quicktime format. We can convert the AVI files to Quicktime ($1.00/min of video) or you can use Quicktime Pro and do it yourself.

The external hard-drives we provide are compatible with every version of windows operating system and most versions of MAC OS.

Requirements:
1. Computer with fire-wire or USB port
2. Video editing software

Outputs to DVCAM and BetaSP are available on special request.
