a transmission signal with 40x more information than traditional
firewire devices. The increased data bandwidth guarantees that the
digital version of the original film footage looks exactly as originally projected.
Don't be fooled with other companies touting their digital transfer via firewire as
looking better than the original - that's technically not possible.
The best standard-definition transfer will at most offer 800 lines of resolution,
and by the time the signal gets down-converted via firewire, you're left with only
480 lines of resolution. Since 8mm, super 8mm, and 16mm films have a limited resolution
of 1000 lines, a true 1080p HD transfer is the only way to go to ensure the digital
version of your film transfer is as true as possible to the original.
